Brown is making dreams come true one student loan elimination at a time
Could Oprah really make something so wonderful come true!? Well, maybe not, but Brown just might. On Wednesday, the Providence, RI Ivy announced that they plan to eliminate student loans and replace them with no-strings-attached grants.
Forbes reports, “As part of its existing $3 billion fundraising campaign, Brown’s goal is to raise $120 million to help fund the effort. Depending on Brown achieving its ambitious fundraising goals, Brown could implement its financial aid plan as early as the 2018-2019 academic year.”
If only we could all be so lucky…
Cornell student arrested, charged with assault, victim says it was a racist attack
The Cornell Sun reported this week that local police “arrested a 19-year-old Cornell student, John P. A. Greenwood ’20, and charged him with third-degree assault and second-degree aggravated harassment, both misdemeanors.”
The incident took place off campus and the victim feels certain the action was racially motivated.
“When police asked the victim shortly after the assault why he thought he was targeted, he said he believed it was because he is black. ‘I have a pretty good idea,’ he told police, according to court documents. ‘They were calling me ‘Nigger,’ so I believe it was because of the color of my skin,’ according to the Sun’s report.
Greenwood has lawyered up and with officials looking at the incident with respect to hate crime laws, there will definitely be more to come.
